Check out Val’s interview with Lisa Herndon of The Riverdale Press.
“Doing your homework pays,” observed Lisa Herndon, a gifted journalist and storyteller herself, in the latest edition of the Riverdale Press. “It did for Valerie Bodurtha in a way she never expected.”
As a senior at Horace Mann, Val Bodurtha received an assignment from AP World History instructor Dr. Susan Groppi. “I turned in this weird, Aztec modern-day short story about a girl in modern-day Azteca in a world in which the Aztecs world had never fallen to the Spanish,” recalls Val.
One summer later, Val turned that weird homework assignment into her debut novel, The History Makers.
Thank you, Lisa, for this captivating write-up!
